The first item that got sold by Amazon was a book by Douglas Hofstadter
Hi guys, Neil Waterhouse. Got a question from Geraldine Archer asking what did Amazon sell first? Well the first item that got sold by Amazon was a book by Douglas Hofstadter called Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies and that was back in July 1995. Now, the book was sold from Amazon’s founder, Jeff Bezos, from his garage in Bellevue, Washington, USA.

And of course, you know, book sales took off from Amazon and in the first two months of business, Amazon sold to 50 states in the US and to over 45 countries around the world. Sales, of course, continue to keep growing and growing and within two months, Amazon sales were up to $20,000 per week. And today, of course, they’re up to 60 billion per quarter. I’ll put a screenshot up showing you what the website looked like for Amazon back in 1995. That’s all for this week just a quick one. Until next week, list more, sell more. This is Neil Waterhouse.
