How to Upgrade Yourself In One Step
Transcribe of “How to Upgrade Yourself In One Step”
– Hi, it’s Neil Waterhouse. There’s an old saying that we’re the average of our five closest friends. In the financial sector, this is regularly interpreted as our income is the average of our five closest friends’ income. So How to Upgrade Yourself In One Step?
Income is only one part
Income, though, is only one part. This rule of five closest friends often applies to many other areas of life. Including how we speak, how we act, how we think, our health, spirituality, our hobbies. Our relationships, and many other factors of life.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that to improve your income or your health, etcetera. That you have to dump your existing friends. I’m certainly not saying that and I certainly haven’t. You know, I have good friends that I’ve known for over 40 years.
The quickest way to change your average is to start hanging around more people who are successful
What I’m saying is, the quickest way to change your average is to start hanging around more people who are successful in the areas in which you want more success. Now one way to find these people and get to spend time with them is at events and conferences.
Since I started selling online over 20 years ago, I’ve been to what must be 100, 200, or more events all over the world, and I’ve been honored with being able to hang out with some absolutely amazing people. Through these events, I’ve made some great business and personal friendships and relationships.
Spend time with industry leaders, it is very important to make sure you are there, that you’re in the moment, that you really listen to the person
One thing, though, if you do spend time with industry leaders, it is very important to make sure you are there, that you’re in the moment, that you really listen to the person. We can all tell when someone is really listening to us and when they aren’t. If you want to spend more time and build relationships with successful people, it is so important to stay in the moment. How to Upgrade Yourself In One Step
Be charismatic and really listen to what that person is saying
Be charismatic and really listen to what that person is saying. Now hanging out with successful people, it’s been such a huge help in my life, and not just financially. Choosing who you hang out with has a dramatic effect on where you’ll be in the next three months, six months, a year, five years, et cetera. Many years ago, one of my mentors taught me, if you hang around successful people, you get success.
If you hang around successful people, you get success
Well, if you hang out with dogs, you get fleas. Now I know this is a fuzzy and scary topic, and I know I’ll probably cop some flack over it, but it’s such an important topic and it was such a huge lesson in my life. By the way, I love dogs and cats so, every flea is worth it.

Another great video Neil!! Really enjoy your ‘life lesson’ videos as much as your Seller Tips vids!! Thankyou!! 🙏
Thanks Neil.
I have noticed that you refer to “being successful” or “successful people” quite regularly in your videos. Since most of your advice revolves around wealth creation and business I assume for the most part that you mean “financial success”.
I thinks it’s really important to acknowledge that success comes in many forms… financial, professional, relationships, physical, self-actualisation, as a parent etc. All too often people talk about success as if the only form that means anything to other people is financial success. Probably because it can be easily measured. My definition of “successful” is somehow finding a balance of all these things whilst remaining happy and content.
Maybe in future videos you might refer to “financial success” so as to acknowledge all the other ways that people can be successful in life. 🙂
I’m with you Andrew, success is a lot more than just financial success it also includes health, spiritual, family, hobbies etc.
The idea of the video was to show if you want to improve any aspect of your life, hang around people who already have the success in that area that you are trying to achieve.
This does not have to be financial, it could be learning to meditate or anything else.
I have spent too much time in the rat race. Your video explains why I sometimes feel like a rat. I need some new friends! Thanks Neil!
