Anyway, this week’s video is about how to sell more on eBay, buy choosing an eBay username which attracts buyers instead of pushing them away. Over the last 20 plus years we split tested a gazillion names and over and over we see the names that get the most sales are the names which give the feeling of trust and confidence. And trust and confidence is a feeling. We see the same patterns over and over.
Buyers want to purchase from sellers which give the feeling of trust and confidence
Buyers want to purchase from sellers which give the feeling of trust and confidence. And it’s not hard to do this as I’ll show you in this video. Your Ebay username is very important if you are, or wish to be, a full time seller on eBay. Having the wrong name can cost you thousands of dollars every month from lost sales. Your user name should give buyers the feeling of trust and confidence, not a feeling of cheap and nasty.
Put yourself in the shoes of an eBay buyer
Put yourself in the shoes of an eBay buyer. Let’s say the buyer wants to purchase, say, a toner cartridge for their printer. The buyer searches eBay and sees two sellers selling the identical toner cartridges. And both sellers are selling them at the identical price. One eBay seller has a username of, say, A Reject Store or Variety Store. And the other seller has a name like, say, David Jones. Which seller do you think most buyers are going to choose when everything else is equal?

From our split testing of usernames over the last 20 plus years, most people prefer to purchase from a seller which gives them the feeling of trust and confidence. In the land of bricks and mortar stores, popular names that give a feeling of trust and confidence, say in Australia, are David Jones. In America, Nordstrom, in the UK, Harrods. These names gives most people the feeling of trust and confidence. Names that for most people do not give are names like A Reject Shop, A Discount Store, A Variety Store, A Bazaar, or A $2 Shop.
Whatever eBay username you have now, get it surveyed
Now, whatever eBay username you have now, get it surveyed. It costs you nothing to do this. To get your eBay username surveyed, simply get a half a dozen of your family and friends and ask them if your eBay username gives them the feeling of trust and confidence. Ask them to give you an honest answer and tell them not to worry about hurting your feelings. Tell them it’s very important they give you an honest answer as you want to sell more on eBay. Now, if they come back and say that your eBay username does give them the feeling of trust and confidence, awesome! But if it doesn’t, simply change your eBay username.

eBay allows you to change username at any time. However, you can only change it once every 30 days. So the question always comes up. How do I choose an eBay username, which gives the feeling of trust and confidence? And don’t forget, you can use the same username for your website, if you own a website as well. Now there’s many methods, but here’s a simple method. Now, it sounds crazy, but we’ve split tested this strategy a gazillion times over the last 20 plus years. To cut a long story short, Westerners trust European names.
People trust European names
Simply go to an online German or European dictionary and scroll through it until you see a name which gives you the feeling of trust and confidence. The crazy thing is even if the translation from say German back into English is, say, dog’s breakfast, it does not matter. People trust European names, especially if the word has an umlaut, i.e. the two dots above a letter. And then again, after you chosen your new username, get it surveyed again.

So if you wish to also set up a website with the same name, this strategy can save you a lot of time trying to find me by username and website which are both available.
