Check out the best eBay Selling Tips. The 16 times rule is all about how to potentially increase sales of a listing on eBay by a factor of 16 times. This assumes a listing has not been optimised in the areas discussed below.
First step is good keyword research for the “money keywords”, for the title as well as to optimise the listing description for SEO (search engine optimisation).
The money keywords are the keywords which have historically over the last 90 days proved to be the keywords which not just generate “high” traffic, but more importantly, the “right” traffic which has proven to convert to sales.
Every “relevant “keyword that you add to your title generates more traffic to your listing. If you can improve the keywords in your title, it is possible to over double the traffic to your listing. For more information on how to select the best “money keywords”, please see eBay seller tips – eBay keywords.
Next is your Gallery image. If you improve your Gallery image by adding the top three benefits of why a buyer should purchase from you and the top three benefits of your product, you can easily double your click through rate. In fact, we have seen click through rates increase by a factor of six after optimising the Gallery image. For more information on optimising gallery images, please see eBay seller tips – Optimizing Gallery Images to increase click through rates.
If you do the two steps above you can potentially have four times the traffic going to your listing i.e. 2 x2 = 4
Next step is to optimise your listing by using a professional looking eBay listing template which generates trust, is SEO optimised and mobile compatible etc. This can easily double your sales conversions if a listing is not already optimised.
For more information on optimising eBay listings, please see eBay seller tips – Optimising eBay listing templates.
You now have 2 x 2 x 2 =8. That is 8 times the sales.
Next, eBay’s “Cassini” search engine will recognise the fruits of your efforts as your “impression to sale ratio” will have dramatically improved which will result in your listing being pushed further up the search results. This can easily give you twice the traffic.
Now you have potentially 16 times the sales i.e. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16
There are also many other attributes which can be improved i.e. Item specifics, SEO for your listing, as well as keyword optimisation for your eBay store etc.
Four other factors also need to be taken into account.
Cassini also takes into account the following…
1. Price, your price needs to be competitive
2. Your account status.
3. Convenience i.e. where are you located compared to the buyer? Do you offer free shipping?
4. Relevancy

Hi Neil
Would be great if you could include the links to those pages on eBay
Cheers
Hi Chaminda,
Thank you for your feedback. Sorry which links would you like me to add?
Best regards,
Neil
Where do I find this information?
Good to have this on file Neil. Thanks.
I think Chaminda is referring to the links to “eBay seller tips – eBay keywords” and “eBay seller tips – Optimizing Gallery Images” mentioned in the post 🙂

Crazy good post thanks Neil. Put a solid 12+ hrs into 4 listings this weekend based on your advice and far from done. The image editor canva.com has great template layouts to make the gallery image easier. Still major piece of work to create 12 images in one.
Thank you for being so generous.
Ant
Thanks Anthony.
You might want to consider outsourcing your image editing later on. This is $3 per hour work and a good image editor can do several per hour.
Cheers,
Neil
