I’ll show you how to sell more on eBay by taking advantage of eBay’s promoted listings for anybody new to this channel, my name’s Neil Waterhouse and I’ve been selling oneBay for over 25 years. I’m also a million-dollar eBay business from home and creator of Dropship Formula. So let’s launch straight into it. So exactly what is eBay promoted listings also known as eBay sponsored listings. In a nutshell, eBayallows you to pay for 1% of an item sell price tohave the item pushed higher up in the eBay search results.
So if you’re listing an item on eBay for say, a hundred dollars, you can pay from $1 to have the item placed higher in the eBay search results and also have your listing show up in the eBay adverts as well. And also show you that too With eBay like Google and other search engines the higher your listing appears in the search results the more impressions and views that your listing gets. The more impressions, the more views the more sales in the industry. Views are also called impressions.
An impression is when somebody searches for an item on eBay and when your listing appearsin their search results. That is called an impression by promoting a listing on eBay. eBay puts your listing higher up in the eBay search results so it gets more views. And eBay can also show your listing in adverts all over the eBay platform. For example, if I do a search on eBay for say, video projector, you can see that the first two listings that appear at the top of the eBaysearch results are sponsored.
This means they are promoted listings. In fact, the first four listings for this keyword video projector are sponsored or promoted listings. Now, if I click on one of these listings or any other listing and scroll through the listing in several places eBay shows me similar sponsored items. These similar sponsored item advertisements appear all over eBay and also your listings can be shown by eBay on non eBay search engines like Google and also eBay partner websites like Gumtree, et cetera.
One of the great things withe Bay promote listings compared to other types of advertising like say P P C or pay-per-click advertising is eBay only charges you the promote listing fee if and when the item sells. If the item doesn’t sell,eBay does not charge you the promote listing fee. The fee to promote listing on eBay is variable from 1% and you choose the maximum that you’re willing to pay and you’re only charged that fee if a buyer purchase the item within 30 days of clicking the Promote listing. Here is how to promote a listing on eBay.
First, go to your active eBay listings to do that. Go to my eBay selling sold then listings active and now you’ll be able to see your listings. Notice that one of the columns says promoted listings. Notice in this demo account there are two listings that have been promoted And one listing that says illegible to promote. I’ll click on the word promote and here eBay allows me to set the amount that I’m willing to spend to promote that listing. In this example, eBay is suggesting 5.7% from our tests.
By accepting the suggested rate you’re normally seeing increase of impressions by over 50% and often as high as 70% going one or two points higher than the suggested ratecan give you an increase of impressions by over 150%. Now, one big thing to consider before spending money on paid advertising like this is promoting listings to get higher than search results does not replace optimizing the listing in the first place to get it higher than the eBay search results.
For example, if an eBay listing is on say page 20 of the search resultsnow, then promoting with say a 4% ad spend may only getthe listing to page five. However, if the listingwas optimized first it could already go on page one or two before spending any money at all on promoted listings. But if you do decide to do the same 4% ad spent when it’s on say, page four it could take it to position one or two, which can more than double the impressions and double it, sell conversions.
This is why it’s so important to optimize every listing every time, and it amazes me that over 95% of listings one Bay are not fully optimized. And of course, as you build your business you don’t have to do this yourself. You can spend 10% of your profits on VAs or virtual assistants that you can get from $1 per hour. You can do it for you.
