How To Sell More On eBay – Tip
Transcribe of “How To Sell More On eBay – Tip #19 – Out Of Stock Function”
– All right guys, Neil Waterhouse. How To Sell More On eBay? This week’s video is part of a series I’m doing about how to sell more on eBay. This week’s video is tip number 19, eBay’s out-of-stock function. If you new to this channel, my name’s Neil Waterhouse and I’ve been selling on eBay for 23 years, and I’m also the author of Million Dollar Ebay Business From Home. So first, let me show you why it’s so important to enable eBay’s out-of-stock function to sell more on eBay.
Take this listing as an example. This listing has sold 1,819 times as per the screenshot. We call this social proof. When an item is sold one or more times, it creates what’s known in the industry as social proof. It’s just like when you walk past two Chinese restaurants on a Saturday night. Both of these restaurants are next door to each other, but one of the restaurants has say 10 or 20 people in it, the other restaurant is empty.
Most people will choose to dine in the restaurant that has that 10 or 20 people as opposed to the empty restaurant, as they feel that those people in the restaurant may know something that they don’t. It’s exactly the same with selling online. Human beings love social proof, and seeing how many times an item has previously sold is social proof, even if it’s only sold a few times.
Now, what eBay’s out-of-stock function does is it protects this social proof, i.e. for this listing, 1,819 times sold, but it works just as well for listings that have sold just once. If you don’t have the out-of-stock function enabled, when you sell your last item, eBay will end that listing and you’ll lose all your social proof forever, gone, i.e, you know, one sold, 10 sold, 100 sold or whatever. If you have the out-of-stock function enabled, when you sell your last item, eBay will not end your listing for two months. eBay will just show zero available.
And this two months can be extended at any time just by adding more inventory at any time during that two months. Every time you add another, eBay will extend the two months. So next, let me show you how to quickly enable your out-of-stock function, which, by default, is turned off. To do this click on my eBay, then account, then selling preferences, then enable where it says, “Listings stay active when you’re out of stock.” And that’s it. If you want more tips about how to sell more on eBay, I’ve a free online, step-by-step workshop and I’ll put a link on the screen and below.

Hi Steve,
Here is the link to contact Amazon.

i’ve got one for you… i sell both wholesale and retail .. to dealers directly and on bay to end use customers (some of the same customers my dealers sell to.. )
i have accumulated enough feedback now, 4794, that it is a little embarrassing in that my dealers see how i am competing against them effectively. and of course it reduces their enthusiasm to buy from me at a wholesale level … I would like to reduce my ebay feedback count. is there a way, to say take my feedback number from it’s current 4794, down to maybe like 585 or such ..?
The only way to do this is to move the items to another eBay account that has a lower feedback score.
